"Words become obscured / And the meaning / When the walls bend / With your breathing..."
When "Reflection's Ink" by Seattle's avant rock outfit Sonic Medicine begins with almost Black Sabbathian slaps in your face (as if imagined by Mike Patton) you can sense something happening other than death metal. You feel the tentacles of late 70's proto punk in James DeJoie's bottom filling sax sustains and violin surreal runs by Alicia DeJoie. Front man / guitarist David Cinnamon's pained wail have a grand theatricality pushing the overall sound in other directions that seem to ask more questions. There are Gothic rock walls but also faint falls into Pere Ubu-esque ID rock anchored by Thane Mitchell's heavy handed drumming and William Stovers dark synth work.
"Reflection's Ink" recorded by legendary Pacific Northwest engineer and producer, Jack Endino (of Nirvana’s 'Bleach' fame) is from Sonic Medicine’s new seven-song record "Manic State".

Seattle-based musician, David Cinnamon, has dedicated his life to music. But not in the way most people might. His is not so much a series of professional choices stacked to make a career. Instead, his is more a decision of necessity. But this should be the foundation for all creatives, no? Cinnamon, who fronts the Emerald City project, Sonic Medicine, needs music in the way certain people need insulin or others need a morphine drip. For Cinnamon, music is the stabilizing force that keeps his literal bipolar mind grounded.
Recorded by legendary Pacific Northwest engineer and producer, Jack Endino (he of Nirvana’s Bleach fame), Sonic Medicine’s new seven-song record, Manic State, is propellant like a burst of energy toward a new future. It is reflective like an evening alone. It is explication, through lyric and myriad tonalities, from violins to vocals, of the varied, precarious, delightful human mind.
