Pop music today, bleh. Many of the songs revolve around an easy circular pattern of 2 or 3 chords, many have no change to the support a diverse chorus. Fast food is fun, is even good for your well being from a mental standpoint (maybe) but after awhile you just don't feel satiated. Maybe that is why young people today are increasingly looking back and discovering the romance, the evocative atmospheres of 80's / 90's post punk / Goth pop blends. Artists / bands are dipping into this rich well of emotional music and, in reality, this potent genre has never really gone away.
I hear the dark clouded, glacial somberness of the aforementioned post punk blend in "Circle" by Dublin's post modern, post punk outfit TV People. From the onset you feel the jagged guitar strikes, counter poised against one another, feral tom tom beats and Paul Donohoe's pained and resonant vox that feel at once captivating and comfortable. Like me, your mind and heart might cast the sonic atmospheres of artists like Joy Division, like Bauhaus, like Echo and the Bunnymen and not only because of Pauls sort of 80's scowling drawl but because of the interwoven sound that feels broodingly potent.
TV People is rounded out by Brendan Clarke, Paula Moura, and Ben O’Connor. Of "Circle", Paul reflects:
"We wrote 'Circle' as a tribute to our loved ones and friends and to the countless times that we have relied on each other in times of difficulty. It explores the feeling of being lost within yourself and how you can find identity and meaning in the shared experiences and compassion of those around you."
‘Circle’ was recorded and mixed at Battery Studios London by Grammy award winning Caesar Edmunds (QOTSA, ST Vincent, Foals) and assistant engineer Joshua Rumble. The track was mastered by Christian Wright (Radiohead, FONTAINES D.C) at Abbey Road Studios.

The band have collaborated with Dan Doherty (Darklands Audio), Christian Wright (Abbey Road Studios) and Grammy-award winning mixing engineer Caesar Edmunds (Battery London), and have garnered support from the likes of Hot Press, Clash Magazine, Abbey Road Studios, The Daily Star, Earmilk, Little Indie Blogs, When The Horn Blows, BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Ulster, Amazing Radio, RTÉ and 98FM, plus more.
Having been selected as a showcase artist at Ireland Music Week 2021 and recently playing a sold out hometown show in Whelan's, TV People aim to further build upon their rapidly growing momentum in 2022.
