"Give your tears and your fears to the creatures of the night..."
The addictive but (to me) sometimes elusive Surf Curse put a strangle hold on me way back in 2013 when it seemed like between February and April they seemed to be performing at the iconic Smell in Los Angeles every other week along with some of the seminal indie rock / post punk / jangle pop bands / Smell sort of bands creating a fever pitched sweat box of fun. They were, at that time, tied to Big Joy Records and the Reno, Nevada duo seemed to be fully adopted by L.A. audiences. Those were good times, indeed and while there have been bumps in the road, Nick Rattigan and Jacob Rubeck have endured and thrived.
Their latest single "TVI" from their fourth full length "MAGIC HOUR" dropping this fall is another mosh worthy banger but it doesn't jam full throttle right out of the gate. Instead of the duo's usual lo-fi surf punk mode, the opening verses actually have a sort of Southern blues rock shuffle but don't worry, the song erupts in to the usual Surf Curse sound. Blazing guitars, double time drums, and a fever pitch of wailing vox sure to infuse any live audience with crowd surfing moshy revelry.
