"Honey I feel old as nearly anything / But still I don’t forget your name / Or your open mouth with nothing more to sing / Nothing more or less than just a shame..."
The LIVE stripped down version of Passion Fruit Boys performing the broken hearted invitation "Looking For A Friend" stirs down the beautiful two step waltz to a captivating campfire song. The bouncing cadence is still there in Duncan Shea's walking bass lines but maybe Conor Belcher's satisfying vocal countenance feels more intimate and Duncan's harmonies feel more embracing. Still it all comes down to the story doesn't it and when Conor sings, "I always knew you were a movie star / when you found out you went away / and honey, that still where you are / looking for a friend to see me / nearly every single day / I don't need you to believe me / just remember things I say...", it feels like a gentle gut punch, a wrist burn, because the worst thing in any relationship is feeling invisible. Oh, and when Conor drives home the melancholia with a sweet harmonica break it reminds me what made me fall in love with Neil Young.
"Looking For A Friend" (the studio version) is from the Nashville based duo's debut, self titled album "Passion Fruit Boys" dropping on October 7th, 2022 via Telefono.
