"winter galoshes by the door, they see them though there not there anymore..."
Set against tense urgent piano, Sofi Gev (the solo project of American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Hannah Lovelady) casts imagery in your mind so vividly that you might feel a chill in the air, wetness on your feet and the sting of loneliness.
"I'm alone in this house / the pipes keep me awake / you left your boots out / winter galoshes by the door, they see them though there not there anymore...anymore"
And:
"I wear your heavy coat / the scent of your cologne / I'm in the woods now / feel the wet earth beneath my feet / I count the trees to fall asleep... asleep"
Plaintive strings flutter and cry and Hannah's vocal countenance, strong and straight-faced but super human enough to cry deeply from the soul allows you inside her story:
"Someday, Maybe is an exploration of my worst fear - losing a loved one. I think it might feel like the ground disappearing under your feet. You’re suspended in freefall, looking for a safe landing that never comes. A dusty hollowness permeates your house, so you step outside desperate for some fresh air, but the feeling follows you like a headache. Not knowing what happens after death, you wonder if you might hear from them again somehow, but you also feel ridiculous doing so. The worst kind of isolation."
It is, of course, a thoroughly relatable feeling, one that is hinged on so many interactions or miss steps from birth from many people and yourself. Interactions you cannot fix or unbend, just things you can meditate on or write lovely moving songs, with tears or without.

Sofi Gev is the solo project of American singer-songwriter and indie pop artist Hannah Lovelady. Influenced by such artists as Birdy, Aurora, Maggie Rogers, Coeur De Pirate, Regina Spektor, Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond, and Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes, her music layers introspective, offbeat lyrics and delicate vocals over a dreamy blend of indie pop, electronica, and indie folk. Her earliest and most enduring musical influence came from her father singing Joni Mitchell songs to her at night as a child.
Sofi Gev’s songwriting began in her childhood, entertaining herself on family road trips by making up silly songs with her younger sister. After piano lessons, she started playing the French horn in middle school band class and continued through high school. She honed her sense of melody by singing the words of recipes from cookbooks accompanied by her father playing acoustic guitar.
If you listen closely, you will hear revealed in an intimate yet universal way a woman bravely, fearfully, but honestly embracing and confronting life.
