"...a message to the universe, in the face of death our love will never die..."
The sprite, glittery sounds of 'Love Is a Tender Thing' by ATRIA, the musical moniker of the very talented singer songwriter and writer of books Travis Atria, is warm milk and cookies, absolute sonic bliss. Travis is able to coalesce a sound with tentacles wrapped around late 70's soul pop / 80's R&B ultra pop and in all it's exquisite downbeats, light jazz dipped piano runs, amazing fresh faced background vox, lovely lead guitar splashes, moving string orchestrations and Travis's endearing vocal countenance I feel an amalgam of Jamiroquai, Burt Bacharach, John Legend and Rufus Wainwright (or thereabouts).
Does 'Love Is a Tender Thing' wear rose colored glasses. To a cynic like myself, oh yeah and I could see it used with great sardonic effect in a horror movie over a nasty bloody scene. That being said, if I squint my eyes in just the right way, blur the negativity this world has cast on me, this song become utterly beautiful because, well, it is.
