"don't look at me darling, there ain't that much to see..."
I don't have the skills of an FBI profiler and I am not an empath but I know what I like and I don't like anything that feels fake. The emotional urgency of ' Don't Believe Me' by singer songwriter Dawson Forsey sounds real and wonderfully drawn. His lo-fi sound here with a punk upfront-ness and a 70's gardenrock warmth creates an evocative sound with tentacles in indie rock, alt country, western rockabilly and jangle pop without overstepping into anyone of those genres. Nothing feels poseur here.
The Newfoundland born, Vancouver, BC based artist says of the track:
"Everyone feels like an imposter at some point in their lives. Why not make a cosmic western anthem in the vein of ‘Wicked Game’ for us all to commiserate to?"
I love the sonics here and the droning romantic organ sound that glues it all together. Press notes reveal: [Soon he will be releasing a 6 song debut EP titled ‘Howdy Stranger’.
His DIY style of recording (all on a Tascam Ministudio Porta 2) comes through in the warm grainy tone of his tracks. It’s like you're listening to an old country tape in your pick up truck while driving down a dusty highway.]
Damn, I used to record on a Portastudio eons ago so feeling nostalgic now.
