"tell me how it ends, I'll tell you this is how it's gonna be..."
The three letters V, H, S (for some of us) pulls on the heartstrings, feels endearingly nostalgic. It reminds me of Friday night at the local mom and pop video rental store that felt in some ways like a second home. There are the people who sort of new intimate details about us or at least the part of us that likes certain movies. I remember being a young parent and the whole family going to rent some movies and spend time with these people who we knew by name and who we felt we knew.
The song "VHS" by Iliad (founded by members of This Mountain, Annabelle's Curse, and Mind Modes) also feels incredibly endearing and dreamy. The percolating rhythms, depending on your reference points, might feel touched by late 70's pop even though they sound current as well. The dense sort of easy listening flavors feels cross generational and I have to admit that I thought of old school indie pop artists in that Christopher Cross vein as well as 90's passionate indie rock in that Incubus vein. The tight, so tightly wound musicality is so key here because it frames the emotional context of the vocals, holds it tightly.
