"are you living a dream, are you living a lie?"
There once was a 1980 teen comedy, "Up the Academy" directed by Robert Downey Sr. (yes, Ironman's dad) that I remember it fondly because of the soundtrack. Mad Magazine originally was eager to have the phrase "Mad Magazine Presents" on the title but after seeing the movie wanted nothing to do with it. It may be that bad a movie but, again, in terms of an indie rock / punk-esque soundtrack, it still sticks with me and the soundtrack has found a cult following.
Listening to the raw vision of "Satisfied" by Columbus, Ohio's Poison Door and from their debut album "Fear of Living" (dropping July 28th, 2023) made me think of that album and that fertile time in music. For me, "Satisfied" has that kind of 1979 proto punk aesthetic. Maybe it is the raw potent musicality, maybe it is the 'early punk' postured aloof vocal countenance provided by songwriter, guitarist James Whitehouse, maybe it is the sparse sound produced simply in a live way.
Maybe I will listen to "Satisfied" while watching idiotic "Up the Academy" clips or maybe I will make an "Up the Academy" playlist with added songs like this blended within the original soundtrack. 80's and 90's tones are, have been coming back in a big way over the last decade. Nostalgia is best eaten raw.

A punchy garage rock song with sardonic lyrics about creating and consuming in the digital age. It culminates in a heavy half-time outro. Riffs and baritone vocals aplenty.
