"Isn't it crazy, isn't it strange / Today he's gone he was here yesterday / Started out something / Is it just nothing now instead..."
The multi-generational sunshine of "Radio" by San Francisco based Loon, from their debut EP "hello honey", feels exuberantly molded out of distinct bits of 80's jangle pop, 60's Brit pop, 70's garden rock and, for me, even 90's indie rock with power pop (even grunge) shapes. This beautiful and totally punchy, well constructed track with jubilant sounding melodies and tightly twisted musical synergy is not all sunshine though. The thoughtful lyrics focus on loss, how tenuous life can be and the surreal nature of being here one moment and suddenly not.
"Prayers and poems
And all the songs that I wish I had wrote
Couldn't take him home
To the place where he used to belong
When I call even though nobody at all
Is sitting by the phone
I can hear his radio on
Isn’t it frightening, isn’t it weird
The one-way ship boards whenever it feels
Leaving a rogue wave
Breaking on everyone who sees"
And all the songs that I wish I had wrote
Couldn't take him home
To the place where he used to belong
When I call even though nobody at all
Is sitting by the phone
I can hear his radio on
Isn’t it frightening, isn’t it weird
The one-way ship boards whenever it feels
Leaving a rogue wave
Breaking on everyone who sees"
From press notes:
I love thoughtful songs and "Radio" opens conversations while at the same time making you feel like moving in some way, whether driving in your car, running over hillsides, skate boarding through urban landscapes, or surfing on peppy 4 footers.

San Francisco's LOON is a heavy hitting four-piece with roots across coastal California and a touch of North Carolina charm. After a year of playing shows together and polishing their sound, the band is proud to present their debut EP, "hello honey".
The release encapsulates the energy of LOON's lively, uninhibited shows while simultaneously showcasing the boys' songwriting chops and undeniable musical chemistry.
Prepare your ears for a sonic stew, bubbling with influences of British Invasion, Jangle Pop, Surf & Garage Rock and a dash of early Punk. With a first impression this strong, it should be evident to all that "hello honey" is one introduction you'll remember.
LOON, indie rock, alt rock, alt pop, cross generational sound, jangle pop, surf rock, brit pop, dynamic, tightly wound sound, harmonies, "Radio", debut album "hello honey", San Francisco,
