"I hate to wait but I love the excitement..."
The pop punk snark and bark of "Stealing Rims" by Cleveland bred, Chicago based singer-songwriter / musician Matt McLean is a fun ride (maybe on a skateboard). The self aware, acerbic and absurdist style which made me think of an amalgam of They Might Be Giants, Ween, Lemon Demon, and Weezer, walks that kind of tightrope between semi and serious but in a super punchy, cool way. It leans in both indie rock and power pop camps without feeling too jokey (at least to me).
From Matt:
[My songwriting influences range from proto/post-punk to 90's lo-fi/indie to 60's pop to krautrock. My first recordings were largely produced as folk tunes. As I have recorded more music, I have explored other genres, ranging from punk to disco to lo-fi beats to synth-pop, while retaining the same influences on the bones of my songwriting.]
