'Armed with a master's degree in jazz from the California Institute of the Arts and global touring experience, Alex seeks continual growth as a musician and as a human.'
The exuberant swank and sway of "Persistent Sprinkles" by bassist Alex Hamberger, and a bevy of truly amazing musician collaborators, feels like shape shifting bits of jazz tropicalia. There are easy shades on display and intricate puzzles but no matter the level of discourse the conversation is always totally engaging. I am, by not means, a true jazz aficionado and in my mind, I probably listen to jazz as a glorious filter over funk, over rock, even over punk and post punk. Alex, who composed and produced (additional arrangement by Ted Taforo), engages the likes of Efajemue Etoroma Jr. (Drums & Drum Engineering) and Ted Taforo (Saxophone & Synthesizers) while playing all electric bass parts.
I love the arc of "Persistent Sprinkles" from point A to point Z and the diversity of not only, styles but temperments and I thought of a number of artsts from Steely Dan, Weather Report, Dexter Gordon, Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Dave Weckl Band and The Daniel Caine Orchestra while listening or maybe just a big amalgam of all of these beautifully wild and intense musical constructs.
