"one friend found to be / proud and bored and lying fast asleep..."
Hey, let's be clear. What I am about to say is a total compliment and not a diss in any way. Not in anyway. The embracing hugs and rough housing of the beautiful "Unwind" by emerging Providence, RI indie band Wooll feels like a bittersweet song written by Rivers Cuomo and Kermit the frog. And it's not just the banjo sounds, no, that's not the biggest part of it. It's more to do with the wistful ascensions that wrap around you, the gentle persuasiveness that explodes into mild moments of rage like a soundtrack for the first time you got you heart crushed into a million pieces at 12 years old.
Vocalist Corinne Roma (who also plays acoustic guitar on this track) has a vocal countenance that, while emotional, feels reserved, a little aloof but not stoic. More like the person in your friend group who refuses to lose it when everyone else does. The rest of Wooll is Derek Goulet as main composer / lyricist / drums / keyboard, Tyler Rosenholm on lead guitar / banjo and Tyler Chauncy on bass guitar.
Wooll's upcoming album to be released April 11th 2024.
