"the sweat of me lingers..."
The distorted opening electric guitar plucks, translucent and off kilter on "2.56" by Berlin's (by way of Byron Bay, Australia) The Dharma Chain instantly portends of something dark and mysterious ahead. The track accompanied with a black and white filmic Official Video leans right into that vibe and while I won't give the narrative away, as shot, edited, produced by Snacks For Your Eyes aka Jordan Pavey with the band, it is a delicious escape with deep cut homages to Hitchcock and Kubrick.
Those aforementioned plucky electric guitars are soon enough enhanced with a lush bottom heavy bass amble, effectively eerie guitar lines, creepy percussive crawls as a stalking framework for Bronte Perkinson's beautifully artful vocal performance. The sense is slippery with impinging tensions amped up with claustrophobic orchestral stabs of sounds.
She explains “2.56 alludes to a story of a lover gone mad. Obsessed with the one she desires, the lyrics play with metaphors of seduction and sacrifice. 2.56 portrays the complexity of the emotions involved in lust.”
This is easy to love although if you listen after midnight it might have you imagining sounds outside and checking to make sure if you locked all your doors and windows.
"2.56" is from The Dharma Chain's upcoming album "Nowhere" due to drop on June 21, 2024.

The Dharma Chain are a 5-piece psychedelic rock & roll band originally from Byron Bay, Australia who have now relocated to Berlin, Germany. Blending raw elements of 60s garage rock with the transcendent chaos of 90s shoegaze, The Dharma Chain have synthesized a sound that is uniquely their own. Since forming in 2020 the band has been on a singular mission to spread their reverb-drenched voice across the world, which ultimately resulted in the relocation of all five members to Berlin in late-2022. Since moving, the band has signed with the Berlin-based label Anomic Records and is in the process of releasing a brand-new full length album in 2024.
