"so I took you home / never left you alone / get out of my mind / get out of my mind!!"
Step into the punk dystopia of "Splinter" by Wisconsin based Whippets, with the magnetic surf beats and kind of Link Wray meets death metal guitar jags and you can't help but lean into the sound. Power trio featuring Bobby Hussy on guitar and vocals, Tyler Spatz on bass and Hart Alan Miller on drums craft a sound that feels like a collision of late 70's proto punk, Los Angeles / London seeded 80's punk stirring in contemporary feargach punk atmospheres. For me, in my rattled brain I keep imagining X (halcyon day X) fronted by Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and Fugazi and OSEES flash up in there too.
"Splinter" is from Whippets' self titled LP out June 7th, 2024 on No Coast Recordings (Thee Oh Sees, Digital Leather, Steel Pole Bathtub). Fuck yeah!
[Whippets toured the US in September of 2023 with Columbus, OH art rockers DANA and are planning a US tour June 2024 following the release of the LP.
The band released their debut 7" EP via Italy's legendary garage label Goodbye Boozy in 2022. It sold out within a week.]
