"When you get older / You’ll be a star /You’re gonna get there / I know that you are / You’ll be reminded by all who you meet / There are some good ones / Just walk down the street..."
The rambling rosy "Heart at the Gate" by Santa Monica, California singer-songwriter (and former pop / rock star) Cameron Leahy has an easy inviting embrace and a starry eyed quality. The unfettered earnest vocal stance has a timeless folk quality and in multiple universes this lovely song could have been born in a 60's London hillside or maybe played at a house party on Lookout Mountain Avenue in Laurel Canyon in 1972 with Joni Mitchell casting shadows on the wall.
"Heart at the Gate" is the focal track from Leahy's debut album "Dizzy Freedom" that dropped on June 7th, 2024. It is truly beautiful, wistful and melancholy meant to be sung to groups of people with open hearts ready to lean in.
"Cause I’m always looking too far
And when it’s gone she can hardly wait
I’m always looking at stars So I’m leaving my heart at the gate"
