"If you wanna love me / Save me from my own mind / If you wanna touch me / Make it short and sweet, I / Haven’t / Slept right / Since we stopped believing..."
The wanderlust hobo codex urgency of "Bright Ride" by Cereus Bright, the indie folk moniker of songwriter, Tyler Anthony has me flashing on Sparks' Ron Mael doing his infamous rubbery dance. Sorry I witnessed it many times at the Whiskey A Go Go eons ago. This probably doesn't make sense to most of you, especially the youth of today but suffice it to say, "Bright Ride" pushes memory buttons of times when you are running wildly and living life. It might be the sort of late 70's Fleetwood Mac / California Laurel Canyon stoner rock, hippie seeded sense, vibe that has infected every decade since, seeping it's sonic celebratory carnage into desert rock, beach goth, folk indie, psychedelic rock and more. Basically every artful musical vibe that flirts with self actualization and runs head long into existential dread.
I love the sound that Anthony is mining, it smells like cigarettes and leather, looks like flannel shirts and furry winter hats, maybe a little bit of Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter S. Thompson. It is jammy and not only sounds good but is the kind of music that you want to play super late at night after the headliner. This is the time when all the fun happens anyway.
LINER NOTES:
[Cereus Bright's 'Ride' is a plea: push against what you've known. Yes, the weight of rethinking your life is heavy, but we have to do it. There are many ideas or structures we reach for to make us feel safe, but ultimately, the song is about letting those go and pushing into the unknown.]
"Picture perfect smile
And a throne to sit on
Look me in the eyes
Tell me, we all belong
No one
Belongs
On the inside
And a throne to sit on
Look me in the eyes
Tell me, we all belong
No one
Belongs
On the inside
Do you wanna a ride?
We’ll all become a different kind
Take anything you can find
Do you wanna Ride?"
Cereus Bright's sophomore album is on the way.

Cereus Bright is the indie folk moniker of songwriter, Tyler Anthony. After a multi-year hiatus, Anthony returns with new songs that are his most personal and most mature yet. Foregrounding his songwriting and exploring new sounds, “Give Me Time” and “Modern Man”, the first two singles from Cereus Bright’s upcoming sophomore album, are equal parts intimate, cinematic, and timeless
“Give Me Time” and “Modern Man” are the first releases from Cereus Bright’s upcoming sophomore album. These songs blend the honest, folk style of songwriter, Tyler Anthony, with modern, soaring instrumentation, sounds, and layers. These first two songs consider the toll of living in modern society on a macro-level (Modern Man) and a deeply, personal level (Give Me Time).
