"you've taken everything from me / and I'm left out in the sun..."
The raw reverie and bittersweet repose of "Your Charm" by FREE PLAY ANGEL, San Diego California singer songwriter, producer, Payómkawichum artist Alexander Miranda throws 80's / 90's postpunk touchstones skipping across midnight lake waters until they sink into the black depths. For whatever reason, the song dug into me right away, the smashed beat and rumbling bass, jangly airy guitar that somehow had me thinking of Beck, Interpol, The Cure and Joy Division all at the same time (yes, I realize that is weird). I like Miranda's vocal countenance (is that an 80's Brit drawl?) and whomever that is who is providing the female counterpart. Love both voices in unison.
Miranda calls this a "total break up song" and I will take his word for it, but that refrain "you're not fooling anyone" makes me wonder a bit.
