"My immunity gainst the comunity / Fades into the haze / But I’m not considered ‘bout anyone changing my ways..."
The beautiful surfy indie pop rock bottom turns and cutbacks of "My Immunity" by Stockholm Sweden's five piece alt psych pop rock outfit Lucifer Sunshine, is cast in mercurial vocal melodies and hauntingly pretty harmonies. The lovely and crazy thing is that the nostalgic pop presence has such potent 60's touchstones, I mean "My Immunity" is a track that feels endearingly right on the Beach Boys iconic album "Smile" (the intended follow up to their 1966 classic "Pet Sounds") poised between 'Cabin Essence' and 'Wonderful'.
Penned by lead vocalist Alexandre Rigaud and fully realized by Lucifer Sunshine in total, the band shares this about "My Immunity":
[My immunity is a song is a song based on the themes of isolation, despair and hope. We went for a warm comforting sound on this one with thick harmonies and a church echo/reverb on top of the instruments.]
The lyrics set against a metaphorical sea full of tranquility, and treacherous storms, cuts as much as you let them but, either way, they run deep while the gentle sway of the song wraps around you. From top to bottom "My Immunity" feels cast in timeless amber and is perfectly produced with assured hands. Nothing is overdone or under realized. It is, in fact, so deftly conceptualized that it's earnest quality makes it so very universal that it would fit perfectly in any playlist with any kind of music and feel fresh, will turn heads for future repeated listens.
"Help me save me I’m walking overboard
As I tumble to seaHelp me savior I’m going under Lord
Save me
My Immunity ‘gainst the comunity
fades into the haze
So I’ll be sitting here waiting yet another day
But here’s the sun to keep me in its warmth and here’s the one to lead me into his arms
Twighlight eerely shadows are falling and I don’t get any peace
Mistakes are made to learn and forget
I know I’ll make it if I can go back to your words"
I really dig this song and look forward into diving into Lucifer Sunshine's songs past, present and future.
[The music can best be described as lush psychedelic pop with rich harmonies and dreamy synthesizers.]
