"Caught the daylight coming by the water / All the kids are pumped up high / It's a thrill I want I'm staying sober / Let me watch them lose their minds..."
The stunning abstract indie pop tropicalia of "Pumped Up High" by electro pop duo Leyya, consisting of the wildly talented collaborators Sophie Lindinger and Marco Kleebauer, is mind twistingly addictive. The production is not only alt pop magnetic from a purely sonic standpoint (the sound / production is f*cking gorgeous), the mood and atmospheres feel distilled from cross-generational spaces. I sense pulls from 80's abstract funk punk like Tom Tom Club as well as 90's hip hop and lo-fi indie, trip-hop and twee sounds like Brooklyn based Land of the Loops or American East Coast art indie pop Cibo Matto. Also feeling known or unknown nods to early 2000's MGMT. Point being, that whether what I am hearing is there or not, Lindinger and Kleebauer seem to pull from a myriad of captivating influences. The synth work coupled with alternate reality soundscapes, ambient touches, evocative vocals (hushed and falsettos) and big funky throwdowns is just... well... delicious.
[Chorus]
"Nobody notices I'm here
And I want it like that
I just want to be in the middle
But I want no friends
Nobody notices I'm here
And I want it like that
I just want to be in the middle
But I want no friends"
"Pumped Up High" makes me want to move, to dance and I can't dance a lick.

LINER NOTES:
Look out for Leyya's spanking brand new album "Half Asleep: dropping on August 30th, 2024.
LINER NOTES:
The new single acts almost as a counterpoint to Leyya's previous double-single release, 'Sometimes You're Lonely' / 'Ease My Mind'. 'Pumped Up High' contrasts the vulnerability and honesty shown on 'Sometimes You're Lonely' / 'Ease My Mind' with hedonistic self-assurance and buoyant electropop, laced with the perfect amount of melancholy. 'Pumped Up High' describes the ambivalence of wanting to be alone but among people - inspired by the concept of being at an open-air summer rave, knowing nobody but losing oneself, and being totally consumed by the atmosphere. This intangible feeling is translated into Leyya's unique genre-bending electropop sound, where thumping synths and obscure digital samples lay the foundation for Sophie Lindinger's euphonic and versatile vocals.
Check out the compelling "Pumped Up High" Official Video starring Valentino Skarwan & Timon Schrofner. Directed, produced and edited by Clemens Niel with Thomas Guggenberger as Director of Photography.

With two highly praised albums, liveshows in more than 20 countries, festivals from Mexico to Iceland - including the likes of Primavera, SXSW, Benicassim, Zürich Open Air or Reeperbahn Festival, a number of awards in their pockets, more than 20M plays on Spotify, global ad campaigns and countless TV and film placements, Leyya made quite a name of themselves in the past five years.
The Austrian bands rise happened surprisingly and quick. It started with their very first release at the end of 2014, “Drowning In Youth”, that made waves among the austrian scene first. It was followed by “Wolves” and an EP, before “Superego” eventually made them a recognizable name way outside their home, too. The track is currently standing at 6 Million Plays on Spotify and close to a Million on Youtube, got support and was applauded by a number of prominent Radio DJs such as Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Lauren Laverne on BBC6 and John Kennedy on XFMs Xposure. It went Top 3 on Germans College Radio Charts, gained airplay all across Europe and was featured in several Advertisement Campaigns. In 2016, the track and amazing video „Butter“ followed directly in Superegos footsteps.
During 2016 and 2017 LEYYA established themselves as a great live band at industry events and festivals at Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg, DE), Eurosonic Festival (Groningen, NL), The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), Liverpool Sound City (Liverpool, UK), Tallinn Music Week (Tallinn, EE) and MaMa Event (Paris, FR), Electronic Beats, Primavera Sound, Sziget and Iceland Airwaves – and finally headlined Popfest (Vienna, AT) back home, where they played a crowd of 20.000 in front of the famous Karlskirche in Viennas beautiful City Centre.
In 2017 they also won the Radio FM4 Award at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards, their natives prime music prize. “Zoo” (2017) was the kick-off to a new-era that mounted into the release of their sophomore album “Sauna” in January 2018. The albums colourful, quirky sound was met with highest praise from the press, including journalistic heavyweights TIME Magazine and Der Spiegel. Singles like “Drumsolo”, “Oh Wow” and “Heat” got significant airplay across the globe. The duo went on to win another Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2018 (“Best Alternative”), supported Arcade Fire at their Vienna Stadthalle show and played a tour of 20+ countries including Mexico and the US and festivals like Fiberfib Benicássim, Dockville and SXSW in Austin. In Summer 2018, just a few months after the album release, Leyya released, “Wannabe”, that went on to win the UK Music Video Award that year.
Taking a break, Marco and Sophie followed individual paths to produce film music, some major hit records and helped giving birth to new exciting projects (Oehl, Sharktank, My Ugly Clementine). By fall 2020, the time was right to sum up what they and the world have been through and Leyya released “The Paper”, earning spins on BBC Radio 1 and yet again number 1 positions on Germanys College Radio Airplay Charts, Austrias FM4 and more.
