"Adelina, you take me on / Caught your days on fire / When you raised the sun / Take me higher than I can go / And you inspire more than you know..."
The absolutely captivating storytelling harmonies of "Adelina" by Victoria, B.C.-based duo Ocie Elliott, singers / songwriters Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy, hugs your soul and feels like wistful memories. Oftentimes, this amazing duo keeps their well crafted songs affable and stripped back, this is, of course, their super power. This is not to say that their songs are not moving, they are very much so but the way they are presented like up front and personal campfire songs, or cherished unexpected moments like when those two musical miracles at a friends and family airbnb trip pull out hidden guitars and blow you away by drawing you close to them via song, is what makes their aesthetic so powerful.
And "Adelina" is powerful in it's understated beauty. Ocie Elliott as a vocal soundscape are two voices becoming one, saying this sounds silly, I mean harmonized voices always encompass a kind of new vocal entity but Middleton and Lundy's vocal embrace seem somehow to go beyond that even. I won't belabor this point because I don't think I can truly explain what I am feeling exactly. I will just say, I adore these two talented folks voices together. The acoustic guitar / drum push that play off each other so solid in the pocket give this track it's propulsion, it's lovely swing. Like a porch dance it turns and spins and stops and starts as the vocals dance too with Middleton being the beautiful anchor to Lundy's voice that dynamically dips, ascends and pirouettes. Lovely.

Victoria, B.C. duo Ocie Elliott – Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy – dream up dusty folk painted in broad strokes of acoustic instrumentation and lyrical eloquence meant for nights under the stars, long drives with no destination, and quiet moments of reprieve. After racking up over 15 million combined streams and receiving acclaim from American Songwriter, Atwood Magazine, PopSugar, and more, the pair cement this balance on their new EP, Slow Tide [Nettwerk], out March 12, 2021.
Ocie Elliott came to life in 2017 on EP. In between sharing stages with everyone from Mason Jennings and Sons Of The East to Kim Churchill and Joshua Hyslop, they launched a series of covers on YouTube shot in the backseat of their Honda CRV, performing intimate renditions of Elliott Smith, Gillian Welch, John Prine, and Simon & Garfunkel, to name a few. On the heels of 2019’s We Fall In, the single “Run To You” appeared in a slew of television shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, Batwoman, Legacies and more.
2020 proved to be their most prolific year yet kickstarted by the In That Room EP, and following it up with the critically acclaimed Tracks EP. At the top of the summer and in the midst of the Global Pandemic, Sierra and Jon retreated to an oceanside bungalow in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island for three days. The peace around them melted into their songwriting.
By achieving balance together on Slow Tide, Ocie Elliott might just help listeners do the same.
