"Mourning light / Stayed home for the night / Thought I’d wake up without you / Didn’t think I could rouse you..."
The warbled, underwater melancholia of "Little Foot" by Brooklyn-based indie psychedelic band Scrimmage is (for me) full of lovely 70's pop throwbacks with blends of late 2000's tropical punk, pop noir and total vibes and half full sadness. Apart from the bird sounds and distant motorcycle hums, the trance like vibratone synth sounds, vintage keys and sort of canned sultry vox against upfront drums and delicate percussive highlights feels compelling and oh, so mellow. Everything works, creating a moody come on.
Capturing a bout of melancholy in the dead of night, "Little Foot" portrays an insomniac longing for comfort and connection. The duality of uplifting synths and darker lyrical content feed the dissonance of hope and anxiety in a moment of insomnia. “Little Foot” provides the listener a glimmer of assurance in the solitude of an ever-stimulating reality.
LINER NOTES:
[Scrimmage is a Brooklyn-based duo fronted by Connor Lewis and Carr Bonner. The band’s sound emerges from corners of Indie, Art-Rock, Jazz, and Psychedelia. Their songs come together like a collage, sifting through old voice notes and Ableton files, breathing life into half-formed melodies and piecemeal recordings filled with the ambient hum of vacuum cleaners and the chatter of friends. Their sophomore EP "Velour" follows their debut EP "Superego" with an existential twist. The duo is headquartered in a too-small-to-occupy spare bedroom affectionately dubbed “the storage room”. Come on by and say hello.]
You can find Scrimmage’s debut EP "Superego" available everywhere and look for their upcoming second EP "Velour". Enjoy.
