"What's been bringing you down / Is it something from the clouds / Or is it yourself / Lost in your fairytale..."
The jagged cataclysmic emotional spirals and grateful revelations of "Soft White" by the enigmatic Owl Bait tugs at me as I marvel at the raw indie propulsions that remind me of late 70's proto punk, 80's art punk, 90's folk cored rock, and 2000's garden punk all kind of scrambled together. I mean I thought of an amalgam of Human Sexual Response, Talking Heads, Meat Puppets, Violent Femmes, Modest Mouse over the many times I have listened to "Soft White" and also perused some of Owl Baits other tracks. Anytime a music writer like myself tries to interpret or describe an indie band, I think he / she has a tendency to pull from music that has been most influential or formative in that critical 18 year old to 34 year old period. Just my theory and I am sticking to it (smile), so my window, my view will be much different than yours. In any event
The aforementioned enigmatic Owl Bait shares this:"This is the first single for our debut album, "Cowboy Marmot". This song was inspired by a homeless man and the thoughts I had walking by him."
From the cruel and crooked world
Avert my steady stride
I'm sorry I don't have the time
But the man on the ground
Reminds me
I've always had what I've needed"
