"Can you please find a way / to be kinder to me / so I can fall / asleep..."
The massive disquieting heaviness and evocative subverting still of "pretty please" by Portland, Oregon based othermusic, pushes a sound that could blister by a thousand narrative and the fact that this torturous, yet elegant passion play is about two people's connection surprised me and I like surprises. Surprises like the sense of ambience, like static laden keys that sound like a doorbell, massive stabs of fury punctuated by bass and drums pummeling offset by stair stepping darkly romantic guitar lines as power chords hang in the air, and then back to curious static laden keys.

[The song’s lyrical theme explores the quiet intimacy of two lovers seeking solace in each other during a sleepless night.]
The evocative harmonious vocals of drummer Ezekiel J. Rudick and synth-keyboardist Katie Skiff dropping poetic lines, "Can you please find a way to be kinder to me / so I can fall asleep / come on pretty please?" More metal than a post punk heavy artists like Bambara and maybe more relationship metaphorical than a band like Tropical Fuck Storm and maybe less punk abstract than Crack Cloud, I nevertheless, for whatever reason, thought of all these bands while listening to "pretty please" and, to me, that is a huge positive.
[othermusic is currently writing and recording their debut LP due out sometime in 2025. In the meantime, they are busy touring the west coast.]

Portland, OR-based othermusic is a heavy shoegaze outfit crafting immersive, cinematic soundscapes that balance raw emotional vulnerability with towering sonic textures.
Drawing influences from Low, Nothing, Hum, and Slowdive, their music blends dreamy, fuzz-drenched synths, thunderous drums, and sweeping, reverb-soaked guitars to create an ethereal and earth-shaking sound.
At the heart of othermusic are the haunting vocal harmonies of Ezekiel J. Rudick and Katie Skiff, whose cascading melodies evoke quiet intimacy and emotional depth. Their voices perfectly complement the sweeping, dynamic guitar work of Tony Reyes, whose atmospheric playing anchors the band’s lush, expansive sound. Together, they create music that is as fragile as it is monumental, resonating deeply with listeners.
