"The Nile differs to never float your future, man / Not if you’re taming the snakes of your past / Egyptian rivers of middlemen you never message back / All listen to Slither with the seventh-grader pack..."
The dark kaleidoscopic sonic machinations of "Compass", by multi-disciplined musician / composer Henry Blaeser, feel somehow like a travelogue of emotions, a semi-surreal psychedelic trip across vast spaces and time zones. Cinematic and poetic in it's curious lyrical allure, it will likely hit each listener different depending on the breath and scope of their own emotional and geographical reach. I am digging the rhythms, the vast different vocal sounds. It is like Blaeser portrays different characters moving through these sonic spaces.
"I travelled for you, never went further for me
The desert you rue is never quite like these IndiesMy path led to truth: You gotta get rich on a screen
You’ve got to fetishise their philosophy"
Whether through multi-verses or across seas and deserts, "Compass" will take you somewhere.
LINER NOTES (bracketed):
[Henry Blaeser delivers an adventure film in a song with ‘Compass,’ discussing niche isolation and derangements of the digital age found through parasocial relationships, religious and political nuance, and fickle pursuits of material success, likening these to being lost in treacherous wildernesses, starving for direction.]
