"I live in a country of slaves and fools / How few roads have been travelled? / How many mistakes have been made?"
The caustic mirrored reflection, anaphylactic feargach punk reaction of "Burr Hole", by UK alternative noise makers Dusker and from their newly released album "Limb Rung Ladder", will either fill you with an appropriate dystopian level of stress or maybe relieve some of the building pressure in your head like the track's title suggest but instead of blood spilling out, fear and worry. The massive, tightly wound musicality here suggests metal meets progressive alternative rock all punked up while some of the musical breaks feel glorious kind of art rock, while other shapes feel kind of American southern rock meets 90's grunge and post grunge. In other words there is a lot of genre blending done effortlessly as if the song structure just grew out of the earth instead of meticulously crafted. The tonal shifts, in other words, make perfect sense and creates this evocative framework for the powerfully raw vocal bloodletting.
Lyrics
How few roads have been travelled?
How many mistakes have been made?
Can you see the Easter Sun dancing?
Has the Devil got your eyes?
Just like last match passed
Feyernoord fans chant
But you can’t stop the Gabba Man
Well, you did cry once
Want your name in a verse
Live your life in a tank
There’s still some cans for the bank
Twenty years in the zone
Time is short
There’s a hole in your head
And your life is a loan
One fourth of the world is dead
And the rest are starving
I want a half full latte
In the Holy Grail
I’m done
And I’m going home
Well you did cry once
Want your name in a verse
Live your life in a tank
There’s still some cans for the bank
There is obviously a lot of artistic seeds that I feel and I want to say that some of the artistic DNA might feel like a blend of artists like Shame, Tropical Fuck Storm, METZ, Pere Ubu, Mission of Burma and that is a great thing.

After years of playing and touring in multiple bands in close-knit DIY scenes, the members of Dusker formed in Leicester in 2019 and quickly set about a string of high profile shows with the likes of Kagoule, Petrol Girls, Fresh and Peaness. Quickly developing a reputation for raucous, energetic lives shows. Debut release ‘EP 1’ marries wide-open, exploratory post-punk with math, noise and post-hardcore accents. Dancing driven guitars, strong rhythms and spitting vocals combine to show Dusker’s myriad of far-reaching influences. The record touches on concepts of platonic love, mutual support and individual empowerment. ‘EP 1’ was recorded and produced by the band’s close friend and collaborator Liquid Tony of Liquid Tone Productions and was self-released in December 2019. Follow-up ‘EP 2’, released on Leeds’ Muzai Records in August 2020, is a confirmation of intent and a further sonic refinement which received airplay on Dean Jackson’s BBC Introducing show and press across Europe and Japan. Fusing raucous punk energy with swooping, contemplative melodies and feedback-riddled textures, Dusker both covered new musical ground and solidified their vein of noisey post punk. FFO: Parquet Courts, Protomartyr, Fugazi, Shellac, Polvo, Unwound, Mission of Burma, Sonic Youth, Oh Sees, Uranium Club, King Gizzard, Pile, Palm, Omni, Crack Cloud, Cap n Jazz, Big Thief, Can, Television, Gang Of Four, Minutemen, Talking Heads, Duds, Deerhoof, Tropical Fuck Storm...
