"when the night shades go down / I won't have a do over god / hidden forces in my head / don't you think it's a little bit odd?"
The unfettered runaway subversive power pop night terrors of "Falling Apart", by underground power pop band Daddy Lion, might just make your heart beat uncontrollably fast. The full throttle (and I do mean full throttle) track pushed by rabid surf punk guitar, feverish vocal wail by frontman Jeremy Joseph, tribal drums, and big booming bass wonks leaves you with a mysterious anxiety ridden sonic narrative that might, like me, leave me breathless and thinking about those time when those outer forces seep into your inner world in a crushing way. The sheer power with power punk meets busker punk (and surf punk), indie rock leans had me feeling 80's and more contemporary seeds in my brain like an amalgam of Hoodoo Gurus, Bow Wow Wow, The B-52's filtered through Thee Oh Sees (circa 2007) and other lesser know subversive acts at the tip of my tongue (edge of my memory).
"Falling Apart" stands as a great track as timeless as worry itself and the trauma of it. A bit of Link Wray, Thee Oh Sees, Iggy Pop, Violent Femmes and Hunter S. Thompson (or thereabouts).
LINER NOTES:
[Daddy Lion roars back into action with their new single, "Falling Apart". Out now on all major streaming platforms via Zerowell Records, the self-recorded band delivers a song about guilt, obsession, self-loathing and pain, all set to a fast-paced surf punk riff. Falling Apart continues in Daddy Lion's series of songs that originated in dreams, picking up where they left off on their prior release, Dream Pop EP, but taking a more anxiety-ridden, fever-dream-like turn this time around. Daddy Lion is currently based out of Columbia, SC and Fort Lauderdale, FL.]
