"I’m at the coastline, I’m at the coast / I’m gonna jump right in / I’m gonna jump right in / To you..."
The orange-blue cast beautiful mourning of "Swim, Drift, Float", by L.A. based singer-songwriter Jonathan Alexander, cuts in artfully enigmatic ways. The melancholy piano that get's swept up in a simple orchestration of bass, drums and acoustic guitar (primarily) as an understated somber framework for Alexander's lovely, stately vocal countenance has emotional gravitas. Nothing feels overly wrought or poseur dramatic, but instead, seriously earnest and it works. The poetry wrapping around the lyrics could be strictly built on mixed metaphors or alive within the straight surreal images set in a dreamscape. At times it feels like an emotional eulogy and other times like unrequited love and other times like a relationship in a coma, asleep and waiting to be reborn.
Apart from the earnest approach, the church like seriousness, the beautiful melancholia during the sung moments, the musical break featuring a truly inspired western pop noir lead guitar break is stunning in the way it services this track.
"Swim, Drift, Float" ultimately feels very filmic and like the kind of song that if given the opportunity to be revealed to millions will be covered by many singers / other artists.

Lyrics:
I’m at the coastline, I’m at the coast
I’m gonna jump right in
I’m gonna jump right in
To you
I’m at your doorstep, I’m at your door
I’m gonna walk right in
I’m gonna walk right in
To you
I’m in the ocean coasting through,
I’m in your bedroom next to you
And I’m gonna swim, drift, float
I’m gonna swim, drift, float
Rest my head on your pillow
I’m in the night now, I’m in the night
I’m gonna doze right off
I’m gonna doze right off
To you
I’m in a dream now, I’m in a dream
I’m gonna wake right up
I’m gonna wake right up
To you
I’m in the ocean coasting through,
I’m in your bedroom next to you
And I’m gonna swim, drift, float
I’m gonna swim, drift, float
Rest my head on your pillow
