"waited half an hour / the call that never came..."
The vintage indie pop atmospheres, gentle psychedelic saturations of "Kentucky Telephone" by The Last Gray Wolf, the songwriting project of Conor Gleeson in collaboration with producer / multi-instrumentalist Jason Abraham Roberts, feels at once beautifully nostalgic and timeless in it's dream laden sweep. For me the swing and sway, the folk straddling rock guitar downhome organica feels like the iconic 70's shades of artists like John Lennon and Harry Nilsson or Emitt Rhodes, Big Star and even Leon Russell or maybe an amalgam of all of them, in terms of songwriting temperaments and starry eyed vulnerability.
LINER NOTES:
[Based in San Francisco, CA by way of Nashville, TN and Louisville, KY, T.L.G.W. is a 1970's acid flashback imbued with outlaw country and indie rock sensibilities. The first single from their upcoming record, "Flaming Purple Crocus", is an homage to Conor's partner who survived a 3 month terminal cancer prognosis, and miraculously 5 years later is cancer free.]
[Kentucky Telephone’ is about the emotional cost of disconnection — from your home, your identity, and yourself. It’s inspired by losing touch with my roots after leaving Kentucky. Recorded analog to tape with Jason A Roberts (Spoon, Norah Jones).]
