"when I try to walk / the world's stuck to my shoe..."
The swanky audacious art rock red velvet curtains of "Melting Eyes" by UK based No Rest For The Florist, the project of songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Eden Dunn and his father vocalist Stephen, pull back to reveal a progressive hybridic style of alt rock, glam, post punk, emo and more. While the musical underpinning cut a big guitar heaviness full of power chords and delicious power slides, you can hear the grand piano fluttering and stepping in and out of the light as solid bass and drum anchors feel buried solid in the concrete. The playfulness, heavy glammy notions punctuated with a kind of post punk / new wave tropicalia including stabs of classical and bossa nova leans too, all of this dense atmospheres colliding makes for a perfect framework for papa Stephen's vocals which possess a artfully thick dramatic flair. In fact, listening to Stephen somewhat chew the scenery I thought of a number of iconic voices like Ian Kimmett (The Jook), like Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror incarnation) and Royston Langdon (Space Hog) or Michael Des Barres (Silverhead) or maybe more accurately an amalgam of all of them at least attitudinally.
Cool stuff, truly. "Melting Eyes" will exist on No Rest For The Florist's upcoming EP.

M.W. Craven – "Although Carlisle-based No Rest for the Florist (what a GREAT name for a band!) clearly draw influences from British icons like The Jam, the Housemartins, the Smiths, and dare I even say the Beatles, their brand of Northern Soul is absolutely their own. With the wit of Half Man Half Biscuit, the catchy rhythmic sound of Two Door Cinema Club and the irrepressible good humour of Pulp."
