"from the ground I have no gold / queen of scene like king of smoke..."
The steel hard punk blues heavy metal of "JENNINGS", by Stockholm-based garage rock duo The Gristle (respectively Max Malmquist on vocals and guitar and Andreas Angel on drums), is an atom smashing homage, salute to no other than Clint Eastwood — "not the icon as we know him today, but the young man who first stepped in front of the camera for just 50 seconds in Revenge of the Creature (1955), playing a lab technician named… Jennings" and the metal mayhem, from blues rattling to 80's Sunset blvd swagger to spaghetti western slinging (maybe replacing red sauce for blood) is as fun as it is face melting.
LINER NOTES (excerpted and bracketed):
[The project was born in 2020, starting as a collaboration between Karl Rockfist (Michael Monroe, Danzig) and Max Malmquist (DenimGoat, Junkstars), both co-founders of the music production house Burning Planet, which scores for games and television. Today, Max Malmquist fronts the band on vocals and guitar, with Andreas Angel on drums. Together, they run their own studios and boast over 35 million Spotify streams between them. Musically, The Gristle are a high-octane blend of punk and blues, soaked in the swagger of garage rock and the soul of James Brown’s tightest grooves. Add a heavy dose of Jack White-style riffage and you get something close to what they call “Muddy Waters on a Triumph chopper — straight pipes, no visor.”]
"JENNINGS" is quite literally instantly compelling like an amalgam of Death From Above 1979 / Band of Skulls / METZ / The Gories at their most dirty.

The Gristle is a chewy, inedible part of meat. If there's too much gristle in your steak, you might send it back — or think seriously about becoming a vegetarian. The Gristle is an unpleasant surprise in a bite of meat, a fibrous bit you may end up spitting in your napkin. The Gristle is also a garage rock duo from Sweden.
