"You're an undoing / Soft and Slow / Soft and Slow / Unravel me / But don't let go..."
The sci-fi ethereal glistens / ascensions of "Evercome" by Urphme (pronounced “erf-may”), the solo project of Ephraim Rosalez, might just slowly capture you or even hypnotize you and have you imagining rising into space embraced by some sort of unearthly protoplasm. Ok, that was my feeling but you may see and feel other things because the track is both whimsical and highly cinematic eliciting the aura of broad fantasy or fableisms as well as a kind of surreality, both dark and light. For example, I just saw the stunning 'Weapons' film directed and written by Zach Cregger and I could easily have imagined "Evercome" being used in this multi-toned film.
You could describe "Evercome" as abstract pop, as space rock, as alternative rock, as electronic pop, as fantasy pop, as shoegaze, as dream pop or as all of those sub-genres.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[“Evercome” marks the opening chapter of Urphme’s Ultimate Rite, an immersive sonic journey into the elusive search for identity and memory within the concept of URPHME: Ultimate Rite: Pilgrimage for Harmonious Metaphysical Embodiment. This track serves as the threshold between worlds — a liminal space where the Host, a fractured self shaped by absence and forgetting, first senses the persistent presence of the Seeker, the echo of forgotten truths trying to break through.]
Some of the lyrics show through via a kind of vocoder vocal effect and some more normal but still washed in a shoegaze air.
Lyrics
Won't you ever know?
Won't you?
Won't you Evercome?
To me beyond
Won't you ever know?
Don't you?
Don't you feel (or yearn to change)?
You're an undoing
Soft and Slow
Soft and Slow
You're an undoing
Soft and Slow
Soft and Slow
Unravel me
But don't let go
Soft and Slow
Soft and Slow
But don't let go
You're an undoing
Soft and slow
Soft and Slow
You're an undoing
Soft and Slow

Unravel me
But don't let go
Soft and Slow

But don't let go
Unravel me
But don't let go
Unravel me
But don't let go

Urphme (pronounced “erf-may”), the solo project of Ephraim Rosalez, is a slow-burning blend of ambient post-rock, devotional slowcore, and spiritual memory work. Fusing cinematic textures with haunted vocals and poetic restraint, Urphme builds songs like rituals: soft, solemn, and searching. The debut album Ultimate Rite traces the path between forgetting and embodiment, a metaphysical pilgrimage for those who feel like ghosts in their own story.
