"would you take it from me // see I’m standing waist deep // need an anchor // an encore // proof of belief // I’d take it from you..."
Once the exquisite bass that soulfully stalks dances with this solid in the pocket drumming and lineal guitar picking (both dreamy and a bit eerie) and other orchestrations make for storytelling that feels at once whimsical and hauntingly folktale'd and like the lyrical poetry, "Anchor" is a song I will connect with often, very often to be able to absorb what I need to from it.
"would you take it from me
see I’m standing waist deepneed an anchor
an encore
proof of belief
I’d take it from you
a treasure a truth
a mark in the map
of the infinite blue
put me to use
tell me what to do
the book in my pocket says
don’t lose
don’t lose
put me to use
show me something new
that this book is a stone
is a wave
is a ruse"

“Anchor speaks to the eternal frustration of wanting to be both moored and meandering — to be known, yet able to create yourself anew.” Lucy expands “Can you sail into the unknown and still remain safe? Probably not. The song longs for home, but also for a love like the one you might feel before the imagined fall from grace that comes with leaving childhood. For somebody to say ‘it’s all going to be okay’, and to believe them.”
"take me back
I’m crawling
take me back and make me clean
hold out your hands I’m falling
bittersweet
bittersweet
my love of the sea
like a child like a thief
take what I want
and then quickly retreat
my fear of the sea
like a child let free
kick up the edges
where mother can still reach
take me back
I’m crawling
take me back and make me clean
hold out your hands I’m falling
bittersweet
bittersweet
I tripped climbing a silver ladder
called my dad to make it better
but I’m not getting through
and I don’t know just what to do
here I lie my thoughts all battered
porcelain skin as if it mattered
sing me joni’s blue
how me what I’ve come to lose

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys are an art pop ambient noise band based in Berlin.
The group, fronted by South African born artist, Lucy Kruger, create music that is full of atmosphere and intensity.
In 2022 the band released, ‘Teen Tapes (for performing your stunts)’ - a follow up to their previous record ‘Transit Tapes (for women who move furniture around)’ - and the final in their series of tapes. The trilogy, which began with the introverted collection of lullabies, ‘Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls’, documents a growing desire to play. There is a relinquishing of control that happens throughout the course of the three records, both in the sonic landscape and in the stories brought to life through the lyrics.
The band has been touring the albums throughout Germany and Europe over the last year, performing at the likes of Rheeperbahn, Fusion, Maifeld Derby, Wave-Gotik Treffen, South of Silence, Immergut, Left of The Dial, and Synästhesie.
After releasing the third and final album in the 'Tapes Trilogy' in April 2022 and touring the albums extensively through the summer, the band are shifting attention to their upcoming album 'Heaving' which will be released in April next year.
The range of material and storytelling captured in the trilogy, and the addition of new material from 'Heaving' have given the group a chance to explore a live set that drifts between introverted and ecstatic.
