"What do you want? / You keep sayin' your sick cause you. can't. get. / What you need / But you can't tell the difference cause I think just consumed by greed..."
Not for the faint of heart, this glorious heavy metal punk extravaganza "Punk For Breakfast", by Colorado based Animal Future, had me falling utterly smitten the first 20 seconds in. There is something, not only fun, not only badass, but perfectly askew here and I love the free wheeling balance of raw escapism and avant garde atmospheres like running down a maze at full throttle. I am loving the punk aesthetic and guitar spectrum that feels at once surfy punk & rockabilly that had me flashing on punk icon and founding X member Billy Zoom. Also loving the throttling boomy bass work and cataclysmic drumming. While I do not (at this time) know if the aforementioned lead and rhythm guitar work belongs to Caleb Erickson or LeAnna Warren, bass props goes to Jarod Ford and drums props to Charles Tyrie. I especially am loving the lead vocals by Warren that had me flashing on a collision of Siouxsie Sioux (Susan Janet Ballion) and Amy Taylor.
Animal Future, a totally original presence that pulls from many genres has me feeling an amalgam of Amyl and the Sniffers, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dead Kennedys, X, Mannequin Pussy, all at their most explosive.
Cowa-fucking-bunga!
The band says this about "Punk For Breakfast": "This eccentric grunge rock track is highly unique and lyrically captures the angst and turbulence of being raised by an extreme narcissist."
LYRICS
Verse:
What do you want?
You keep sayin' your sick cause you. can't. get.
What you need
But you can't tell the difference cause I think just consumed by greed
And it's hurting you, digs underneath your skin
And you let it all in let it all in until it spews out
Chorus:
Wooohaha I am the writing on wall, I am
Waiting until it gets to you
La la la la la la la la la
Verse:
What do you want
What do you need?
I know you can't tell the difference,
No you can’t tell the difference,
No you can’t tell the difference cause I think you’re just consumed by greed
Chorus:
Oh believe me, I've got feelings,
and I'm not teething, this pain is just ingrained.
*Break and Guitar solo*
Chorus:
Oh believe me, I've got feelings,
and I'm not teething, this pain is just ingrained.
La la la la la la la la la

Fueled by the fury of the forgotten, Colorado based Animal Future crafts music that hits where it hurts—tackling mental health, addiction, and the dehumanizing weight of a corporate-run world. With raw energy and socially conscious grit reminiscent of IDLES, their sound moves from indie rock to grungy pop and old-school punk, with Radiohead-esque soundscapes adding a layer of unpredictability. Think Modest Mouse, Pixies, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with a female vocalist who can belt Paramore-level power or let loose raw, unapologetic screams, that’ll keep you guessing. Known for their sharp humor and electric energy, they create a space for connection that turns every show into a rallying cry for individuality and compassion for people and the planet.
