"You plan your attack / Carve up the thin skin on my back / You grin but all I can see / Now are what lies in the cracks of your teeth..."
The twisted art-post-punk merry-go-round ride of "Bite", by Liverpool based half American half British band Sisters, is a wonderfully conceived blendo sort of musical treat, at once feeling dark yet ebullient. In terms of the musicality and the lush playful vocal countenance I literally feel dashes of baroque pop / post punk / art rock / alt pop effortlessly whipped into each other, not in a precious way but organic, natural sort of songwriting. I thought of a diverse blend of iconic artists like XTC or Icehouse or The Cardigans and more contemporary artists like The Last Dinner Party or Jace Cameron, maybe not exactly sonically but artistically adjacent. Truth be told, it is difficult to draw comparisons to Sisters because their sound is all their own which is exciting for me.
From the get go, the hooky acoustic guitar run and the way the song dances, sways and swings as a lovely, undulating framework for Jane Kero's truly evocative vocal countenance is magical. While the song gets wonderfully heavy, the heaviness somehow has pop prowess (in the best possible way) and through it all, "Bite" manages to have an eloquent tone to the beauty and poetic / acerbic currents that flow beneath.
You plan your attack
Carve up the thin skin on my back
You grin but all I can see
Now are what lies in the cracks of your teeth
Snow under my boots
Stuck to my hands and spinning in loops
Lean in for the kill
Wonder how you felt
In the heat
Of your gentle breath
Lapsing in the dark
Taking the shape of waves
Passing through stars
How did you know?
How did you know?
Come to pull me back in
Into your world your glistening skin
Everything I see is between
The diamonds you've shown me
And the cuts that they've made
But the warmth
Of one single breath
Enough to tear through
Depictions of you left in my eyes
Opening old scars of mine
How did you know?
How did you know?
Oh
How could you leave me
Staring at these walls all alone
The paint is dry but it still smells
And im losing my grip
You're late, I'm faint
You were never my kind
And you're making this life
Feel like it's no longer mine
And you watched me
I never seemed to notice
But you were always right behind me

The half American half British band Sisters is a Liverpool based group lead by singer and primary songwriter Jane Kero. The self described ‘dreamy, poetic, weepy rock' band has traceable influences such as Wolf Alice, PJ Harvey, The Cardigans, and more. Sonically the band has developed a knack for catchy hooks and introspective lyrics, but not at the expense of experimentation.
Despite the band's age, Sisters has been featured on the social medias of popular local music critics and music magazines that have pushed the band into gaining traction quickly and under very positive light. Formed in 2024 but conceptualized years before, Sisters is making steps and paying their dues around the Northwest UK. The band is looking forward to their future and the release of their most recent endeavors.
LINER NOTES reveal:
[This is a song about being deeply in love with someone who is troubled and hurting you completely by accident. Almost as an assumed factor of the relationship. It's hard to l love broken people]
