"if you want to / I can get it / if he wants it / I can get it..."
The heavy dirty synths, soulful alt pop vibes of "Hot Honey" by UK's electronic duo high jump is a swagger-eeeee, sultry come on of a song. I am digging the production flourishes that are actually ultra-nuanced / complex in emotional cues but on the surface feels like a sparse sound. By the way, I love sparseness in music and you feel the space between the artfully cool bass lines, the keys, the ambient pop releases and those beautiful back ground vox that, at once, feel like 70's funk rock and 90's indie rock dance flows too. I am also loving the foreground vocals (of course), the unbelievably kool of them, the mystery of them and the way they dance.
In another reality, "Hot Honey" could have existed on David Bowie's 1975 "Young Americans" album or be adjacent to Soul Coughing's 1996 "Irresistible Bliss", for sure.

Our new tune 'Hot Honey' is dropped on Friday 5th December.
It's an unexpected indie hit, with provocative vocals jabbing over dark lofi instrumentals.
Gritty guitars and crunchy grooving drums place it somewhere between the wonky production realm of MkGee/ML Buch and the smooth indie scape of Sports/Men I Trust.
Hot Honey sets the scene for our upcoming releases: pared back, subtle edge, direct songs.
Our 2024 release caught the attention of DMY, Earmilk and Atwood & Fame Magazines to name a few, earning airtime on KEXP, BBC introducing and Amazing Radio. We're excited to have our new music enter the arena.
