"Come home with me / Come take my hand / Come live with me / In my palace made of glass..."
The vast desert strewn, leather bound psychedelic soul of "Palace Of Glass", by New York's DÜÜL SUNS, and from their eponymous debut album, feels immediately filmic casting imagery in your head. It might be the swelling spacey synths like a transmission from a parallel universe pushed by tribal beats, or maybe the winding build up that creates sideways tensions, or the banging piano against a wicked bass and drums downbeat as a teasing framework for the shoegaze-esque vocal performance, and that's only within the first 2 minutes. The atmosphere blends late 70's psychedelia with a sort of Spaghetti Western undercurrent and a crushing blend of ART rock, blues rock and late 90's soul dusted rock all in one. You can throw some early aughts garage rock in too for good measure. It is all here woven, seemingly effortlessly and free form, into something that takes you forward and back at the same time. The artful explosion at around 5 minutes and 10 seconds is gorgeous and maybe even mind expanding.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[DÜÜL SUNS sound encapsulates the serious riffs and chops of Pink Floyd “Live at Pompeii”, the dreamy echoey layers of Night Beats, and the psych-soul grooves of Khruangbin. Principle songwriters James Ruffino (Vocals, Guitar) and Nick Grau (Vocals, Keys & Synths) come together to bring some masterful songwriting, vocal harmonies along with outstanding playing. With Kevin Muenzer (Bass, Vocals), and original drummer Adam Kriney (drums) – this is an absolute VIBE, with an intensely impressive live show, and with SONGS to back it up.]
[The 6 songs on this debut album are self-produced by DÜÜL SUNS: Recorded and mixed in a basement in Brooklyn, NY. Mastered by Kevin Blackler. Lead track “Jealousy”, was the debut single to unleash the DÜÜL SUNS sound to the world, which Clay Pigeon on WFMU’s Wake ’n Bake called “A stone cold jam.” The band says of “Jealousy”- a Stone Cold Jam! For “Mirror in the Mirror”: - The mirror gives you a reflection of yourself, but you only see what you want to see… “Palace of Glass”: - When you’re in love and have nothing to offer, offer the world. “Post Drugs”- A shimmering oasis in a Dalí desertscape. The closer you get, the farther it becomes. “Lying Eyes”- Sometimes deception is the sexiest thing in the world. A psychedelic odyssey. The second single by DÜÜL SUNS. And album closer, “Serpentine”- The third single- "A red-eyed snake visits you during dreams. Feel the warmth on your face." These six rare gems are a collection that will live and breathe and be cherished.]

"A Palace of Glass" lyrics
Come home with me
Come take my hand
Come live with me
In my palace made of glass
There's no reason
And there's no past
No change of the season
In my palace made of glass
And if I have a secret
It'll be yours too
And we'll always keep it
Beneath the floors of our rooms
There's no memories
No questions to ask
There's nothing that you need to be
In my palace made of glass
And there's nothing
(there's nothing, there's nothing)
There's nothing to lose
'Cause there's nothing
(there's nothing, there's nothing)
You ever have to choose
It's just a dream
It's never gonna come true
But it's a dream
That I'd like to share with you
And we can satisfy the rage
We can leave it up to chance
'Cause we won't ever age
In our palace made of glass
And there's never any limits
There's nothing to fear
There's no need to manage it
When you're living here
