"Снова экраны засветят тысячи глаз / Кофе опять не скрасит чей то амбре / Пробки не выбьет, пробки выпустят газ / Корпоративный диджей включит кармэн..."
The dark sinewy jackdaw synthwave magnetism of "Cпокойного Дня" [ Good Day ], by Latvia retrowave / dark synth pop trio Taknado, fills me with cinematic imagery and mysterious narratives. At first the fact that I don't speak / understand the Russian language felt like a hindrance in terms of feeling the full emotional sweep but the more I listened, consumed the the artistry, the open interpretation of the story just feels more exotic. The heaviness of the opening synth keys is paramount and they have a potent thwack to them, a kind of impossible thing to define but the thick sound almost feels like metal bending making them as percussive as they are melodic. As other synth sounds layer in with a machine beat and lovely off beat push that give the song an off kilter tension, the song fold in on itself as those vocal drawls tell the story of your choice. I have to admit I though of cinematic imagery and, dare I say, even saw John Wick making his way through a dense crowd moving to "Cпокойного Дня" [ Good Day ] before mayhem ensues.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[Taknado - a trio from Latvia, one of the few representing the style of synthwave, retrowave, syntpop. Their sound will easily immerse you in the vibe of the 80s - the golden era of electronic music. Taknado's music can be heard in the computer games Opsrunner Emulated. This concert is dedicated to the release of the first album Side A / Side B on vinyl.]
[The track’s flow subtly references “Spokoynaya Noch” by Kino, but the lyrics convey an almost opposite idea:
"a person has no time to truly live or even sleep — their days and hours are already fully scheduled"]
The sense here (to me) is both retro and futuristic, darkly romantic, mysterious, sultry, shock and awe.
