The dark seductions, magnetic fields of "Incantation" (Live) by Toronto psychedelic art-rock outfit 5th PROJEKT, and my second glimpse from their first LIVE EP, "Live In London", is beautifully heavy, drawing you into their genre blended fray. The track, first revealed on their 2013 EP "Gamma-Wave Rhythm" rolls over with big rock dynamism. Opening with Sködt McNalty’s cylical guitar runs tapped out on the fretboad like a psychedelic engine. Also loving David Pake's drum work sonically and attitudinally, his snare thwack punctuating a series of staggered highlights around and in between the super active bass alliance by Peter Broadley. Tara Rice offers added guitar and the voice of the track possessing a vocal countenance that feels bold and strong yet vulnerable like an amalgam of Jehnny Beth (Savages) / Katie Sketch (The Organ) / Chelsea Wolfe (or thereabouts). Again I feel new iterations of sounds seemingly drawn from the ghosts of 70's prog and psych adjacent to Amon Düül II or early Floyd colliding with splinters of 90's prog / indie of artists like Portishead (circa Dummy) and the blendo askew psychedelia of Pond or Trees Inside Out.
Truly lovely stuff that punches and embraces your senses at the same time until you are simmering in some illusory stew.
“Live In London” (officially) drops on May 13th, 2026 via the band's own independent label, Organik Rekords.
