"I've been waiting for so long (for so long) / And the day has finally come (finally come) / When everything is going wrong (wrong) / I was right to fear it all along..."
The super charged alternative swing, slap and charm of "Peak Bleak" by Stockholm, Sweden's Bleak Streak feels, at once, indie rock / art punk assertive but twee sweet too and I love that. The decidedly 90's edges (to me) feel like an amalgam of artists / bands like Sleater-Kinney, Guided by Voices, The Amps, Circus Devils and I admit that I am a sucker for girl boy / boy girl vocals and three piece bands too. At the three piece core, with artistic tentacles in punk, hardcore, garage and indie scenes you have Daniel Östborg (BLAH!, Data Control, L’Obscurité), Melody Almroth (Vidro, Bad Nerve, Data Control, Trots), and Lars Harefjord (PoPo, Lommen, Ditches). The sound feels gratefully DIY, raw and freewheeling eschewing definitions but rather just wreaking artful havoc that feels communal and indie real to the bone.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[The title track is from the band's sophomore album "Peak Bleak" that dropped on March 27th, the successor to their debut self titled album "Bleak Streak" (2024).
About the album release:
With Peak Bleak, Bleak Streak stand ready to invade your home (and mostly your ears) with another dose of sloppy and brute, semi-cute sadness.
Starting with the loss of a friend and ending with considering weather to carry on themselves in this unforgiving world, Bleak Streak takes you on a journey through the half-lows and the utter low-lows of life. Sonically it has been described as spanning from the modest but great sounds of New Zealand icons The Clean, the feeling of putting your head inside of a speaker box and Norwegian free jazz. Brace yourselves! (And let's all pray that the world around us has reached Peak Bleak while Bleak Streak has not)]

LYRICS
I've been waiting for so long
(for so long)
And the day has finally come
(finally come)
When everything is going wrong
(wrong)
I was right to fear it all along
My bleak has finally reached its peak
Seems like nothing's going right
(going rigth)
And i cant seem to find the light
(find the light)
The tunnel's dark but it's alright
(right)
I don't like when thing look bright
My bleak has finally reached its peak
Peak bleak...
The Chicken Wheel will take you to the AP Go Fund Me- and any amount is so appreciated!
THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM

With roots in the hardcore, punk, garage, and indie scenes and basically all things DIY, Bleak Streak emerged as a band for Daniel Östborg (BLAH!, Data Control, L’Obscurité), Melody Almroth (Vidro, Bad Nerve, Data Control, Trots), and Lars Harefjord (PoPo, Lommen, Ditches) to explore their diverse musical tastes.
Bleak Streak is a trio with hopes of sounding like more than three people. This is partially achieved through 12-string guitar rockage and complimentary male and female vocals that range from soft duet-singing to screaming into a pillow.
Some of our clearest influences are The Replacements, Husker Dü, The Magnetic Fields, The Babies and Guided by Voices, but we strive for our own unique sound which has been described as eclectic and quirky.
Despite all the name dropping, we believe in non-pretentiousness and the importance of at least a little bit of stupidity and self-deprecation in our song writing.
Bleak Streak, Stockholm Sweden, lo-fi, three piece, indie rock, alt rock, power pop, post punk, DIY indie, new album "Peak Bleak", single "Peak Bleak", girl boy vocals, adjacent to The Clean, sophisti rock,
