"oh darling, like a bloom out in the garden / when love is new.."
The beautifully torn emotional melodies and punches of "On Things That Don't Last", by Washington DC based existential indie outfit bluem, feels exuberant and artfully sad at the same time. The sweep of tightly wound indie rock and sort of power pop realizations as a framework for lyrical poetry that will undoubtedly be interpreted a thousand different ways by us listeners, does feel like it has the emotional complexity and angst of a youthful indie film. Garden State comes to mind, hey it was youthful when it came out. Anyway, I am digging the sound here, especially the vocal melodies and killer lead break and while I cannot think of other band comparisons ( a good thing ultimately) I am thinking an amalgam of songs like Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me", Guided By Voices' "Teenage FBI", The New Pornographers' "The Laws Have Changed". Don't ask me why because I probably could not tell you.

LYRICS
oh darling, like a bloom out in the garden,
when love is new
With a suitcase by your side
leave your lonely drive
oh true love is hard to find and grow it
young love feels like morning
the morning of life
like tossing glass from side to side
All my love came spilling out
Amtraks, cushion ass, im crying now
“I miss my baby”
ill leave the city for you
dont you worry about that
tossing glass from side to side
I’ll do it both ways and walk away,
Why don’t you leave me on the ground?
oh babe I’m ready
an I want you to let it all hang out
i’ll give you my love
im fucking around
like tossing glass up and down
i wanted to find
like tossing glass from side to side
