The dreamy soul pop grandeur of "Bound & Covered" by Cape Town, South Africa's Yellow House, the dream pop project led by Emile van Dango and from the upcoming album "Gateways & Trains" (dropping in August 2026), feels like a lot of things cut from cross generational genres / cultures. I mean the rhythmic swinging swag beats had me flash on Marvin Gaye and Emile's sultry, smooth as silk vocal countenance and funk laden guitars feels to me like late 70's Roxy Music or Scotland's 80's new wave band Associates colliding with current blues indie / soul pop outfits like Mild Orange and dreamy alt pop experimentation like SALES. The indie rock / alt pop persona of this track is so deliciously vibey, part Bryan Ferry, part MJ, part Bowie, part Billy Ocean. Just a lovely dense blend that feels rather timeless to me.
