"suppose I get extreme / anxiety / trying to change / the things I have no control / of..."
The introspective fuzz, somber synthpop / post punk hard reflections of "Voices" by New York based DIY indie artist / multi-instrumentalist / producer MangoDog, and from his debut self-produced EP "Silverose", is easy to trust fall into. The seething melancholia, hard embraces and second thoughts percolating as a lovely vocal countenance with varying degrees of subtle mic distortion is compelling and beyond as is the instrumentation and production all done up all by himself. The new wave glistens, the sycopated guitar lines, the driving bass against machine beats, the layering like a million thoughts has me feeling connections or maybe even loving homages to indie luminaries. I am feeling a magnetic amalgam of The Drums circa "Portamento", KennyHoopla circa "conditions of an orphan", Surf Curse circa "Nothing Yet" or maybe even proto new wave / punk lineage further back to iconic artists like Heaven 17 or The Human League or even Bauhaus ("The Passion of Lovers" pops up in the back of my mind).
I am really loving this track- it is one of those kind of tracks that you can play on repeat for hours and dance or cuddle up on the couch and just fucking think about things you did and didn't do, ya know??
