The boldly interwoven exuberant embrace of "Nai" by Eventually Flowers, the collaboration between Tom (Tender Glue) and Janise (Lavender Bones), feels nostalgic, reflective of iconic indie rock times and movements. There is something so exhilarating here to me. I have always loved American college rock because as a collective it is not only a sign of things to come but always seems to be fueled by raw, organic, DIY aesthetics, especially from the 80's / 90's and 2000's. "Nai" with it's beautiful rhythms, soaring guitar layers and beautifully expressed poetry via a vocal countenance that feels so present, in the moment, soulful. I feel a sort of amalgam of indie rock, folk rock dusted by varying degrees of new age (if that makes any sense). The first time I heard it, there was something very 10,000 Maniacs about it (and I love that a lot). I also feel an adjacent artfulness to luminaries such as R.E.M., Cowboy Junkies, World Party.

["Nai" was inspired by a brief connection that ended with two people seeing things very differently. It's about the stories we tell ourselves, the assumptions we make, and how easy it is for two people to walk away from the same experience with completely different perspectives. I wasn't interested in writing a song about blame or who's right or wrong. I wanted to approach it from a place of empathy, because I think we've all found ourselves trying to make sense of something in our own way.

We recorded "Nai" at Dreams Are Not Enough studio, and it also introduces an idea that's become an important part of Eventually Flowers. We recorded the frequencies of a live yellow calla lily and incorporated them into the track. Each flower carries its own symbolism and natural frequencies, and we'll be weaving a different flower into every release as a subtle thread that connects the music.]

I have featured Tender Glue a handful of times since 2019 and am stoked to hear more from Eventually Flowers.

Eventually Flowers is the collaboration between Tom (Tender Glue) and Janise (Lavender Bones), two songwriters whose distinct musical paths came together through a shared love of creating. What began with a single song, "Small Place Conversations," gradually grew into a project where their different backgrounds, influences, and perspectives could flourish together. As they prepare to release two new singles and continue work on their debut full-length album, the duo found inspiration in the yellow calla lily, a flower symbolizing joy, gratitude, and friendship. They brought a live yellow calla lily into Dreams Are Not Enough studio in Brooklyn and recorded its natural frequencies, weaving those sounds into the new recordings as a subtle sonic thread that continues throughout the album. The recordings were created with Aleksi Godard, owner of Dreams Are Not Enough, who also played drums and handled mixing and mastering, helping shape the band's evolving sound. The yellow calla lily marks the first chapter of a larger vision. Each Eventually Flowers album will be inspired by a different flower, incorporating its symbolism and natural frequencies into the creative process. As the project grows, so will its garden of influences, with every release exploring a new bloom and the stories it carries.
