AP Track Review
Love Song on W. Washington Street is Kind Skies' single from their upcoming EP "Certainly Optimistic" and the lengthy, sort of matter of factly song title catches your eye and imagination right away. In fact, most of the other songs on the EP are merely one word, Connect, Happy, Sink, Progress except for the other multi word song title, You Said I Sound Like Neil Young. This juxtaposition of single word titles to phrases, is interesting, compelling and, well, poetic in and of itself. They are begging me to listen. Love Song on W. Washington Street starts of with dour psychedelic guitar picking until it erupts into sad happy sounds. The song is at once jammy but forlorn. Maybe it is Chris Bosses' semi-monotone very reflective vocal style or Caleb Wallaces' jangly lead and guitar style. Stephen Boss and Kristian Sheeley maintain a seriously raucous bass and drums rhythm section that offsets the sad resolute feelings like punches in the air. I thought of 90's college rock, of R.E.M and Morrissey and how much I want to hear You Said I Sound Like Neil Young.
