"there’s also hope and trust"
Oslo indie rockers Over The Trees latest Wake Me Up is a celebratory affair although touches of pain and sadness are laced throughout. It is a pretty lush sound here as produced, mixed and mastered by Nick Terry (The Klaxons, Libertines) and, those of you who know my tastes know that I like songs to feel a bit more rough but the emotional punches are strong on this track. It's sort of jagged, shifting composition and powerful lead vox on top of acoustic guitars pull you in slowly. The song ramps up on electric fanning guitar, the overall sound getting more dense and powerful. At a certain point, there is a lovely surprise and then when it starts rocking in a big way you cannot help but to be moved.
Of the song, the band offers:
«Wake me up» talks about a widespread disease of our age. It’s about being trapped in negative thought patterns and feelings that make you blind and disoriented, and make you lose track of what’s real and true. It drags you into the desperate mind of someone kept prisoner in their own thoughts, but in this prison there’s also hope and trust. There’s something under the mist that lights up when everything gets dark.
Over The Trees are Eivind Frustøl (Guitar & vocals), Mathias Christoffer Jensen (Guitar), Tobias Flottorp Heltzer (Bass), Arne Steinar Myrvang (Drums) and Fredrik Rafael (Vocals).
