"I don't want my life to be a flat line"
"My music is nothing more then a failed attempt to understand my existence"~Juni Poet
Juni Poet is a Swedish singer-songwriter and producer (and vivid daydreamer) and Clairebear is a singer-songwriter as well. He is from Stockholm and Clairebear is from L.A and while they usually collab / write via Skype, the two penned the track Heartbeat while Juni visited her last summer. It floats on layers of electric guitars, one a percussive combination of palm muted and clear rhythms, the other clean guitar lead lines, Clairebear's highly effected "uumm uum" is a wonderful rhythm point that fades in and out throughout, a well constructed beat with the faintest of bass, and ambient sounds that at one point sounds like a yelp of a little dog. This musical bed is produced simply but so exquisitely sonically rich. Less is way more here. The pair favor nuance over indie pop tropes. Poet's vocal aesthetic is engaging and intimate as if his inner conversation about life and fulfillment has somehow spilled out. His voice (on the verses) is ghosted faintly by Clairebear and her accompaniment raises and lowers at the right moments and is a big part of the sound here. The tone of her voice captivates and her emotionally muted aesthetic (in large part) as a harmony on the chorus drives the song, "I don't want to my life to be a flat line".
Poet has a commanding ability to flow and to ebb. The words are wise and poetic, the connection to our heart as a flesh and blood machine that performs, "2 billion beats if we’re lucky". It was in ancient Egypt that the idea that this vessel contained our emotions was originated because doctors and philosophers noted the change in heart beat when people went from being calm to anxious and we still think in terms of hearts being broken and I like it that way.
"The heart is used in many songs as a symbol of love, but the heart represents so much more. The heart is like a ticking clock, a symbol of mortal life and the short time we’re given on this earth. No matter how heartbroken the heart will always keep on going til the day we die, day and night, it can never go to sleep. Maybe we owe it to our hearts not to let our lives become a flatline." - Juni Poet
Pretty blown away by Heartbeat. I feel a lot of great songs are coming from these two talented young artists.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
This Swedish singer, songwriter and producer have ever since childhood been a vivid daydreamer. Spending most of his awaken hours somewhere far away searching for answers, his long quest to find the meaning of life is documented through his music.
The voice of Juni is the voice of an Inbetweener, a voice of someone who can’t seem to figure out who he is and thus constantly questioning his existence. There’s a big grey area here in music that is yet unexplored. Many of us struggle to find our place in this modern world and are always seeking to find it, but we do it alone. We keep these thoughts hidden behind the perfect insta wall where we got it all figured out, and so these stories never gets told. But these stories are many and maybe if there were more music about it we wouldn’t have to feel so fuckin’ shit about ourselves.
Heartbeat is produced by me ”Juni Poet” and written by me and my friend ”Clairebear”. It’s the second and last single before we release our collaboration EP. She’s from LA and I’m from Stockholm so we usually write over Skype, but this one we wrote over in LA when I visited her over the summer.
