Okay, the first time I heard the scintillating pop punky New Mood by LPX, the solo project of Lizzy Plapinger (co-founder of boutique record label Neon Gold Records (Christine and the Queens, Haim, Charli XCX, Tove Lo, Marina, Ellie Goulding etc) and lead singer of alt pop darlings MS MR) I stood straight up and exlaimed, "I WANT to party with that girl!" After catching side eyed daggers from my wife and a few of the patrons at the restaurant we were dining at I explained that I didn't want to party, party but that I wanted to hang out with because I could tell right away that this woman would have an opinion on anything and everything and gladly share it with me and I like that. Like I could throw out any subject...
Bagel or donut? BAM!
The Strokes? BAM!
Brexit? BAM!
Trump? BAM! BAM!
Social distancing / Coronavirus BAM! BAM! BAM!
I mean, I could be wrong on that but I doubt it. Listen to New Mood with it's kind of 80's punkified electro pop with her brazen proto punk diatribe and you can see that Plapinger has an artistic sense and a sense of hyper theatricality within her vocal aesthetic. It is a sort of bipolar performance, broken and vulnerable one second and explosively angry the next. As LPX she is a cute little kitten who roars, can unhinge her jaws and bite your head clean off.
Ok, admittedly that last line was, you know, kind of over the top but one a publicist might just quote but I can do better, (clearing my throat).
As LPX, Plapinger's performance is unpredictable. An aesthetic that licks an ashtray and french kisses you afterwards, just to fuck with you.
Oh, fuck me. I am horrible at this. Thankfully, Lizzy Plapinger is really, really good at what she does. Check out New Mood below, the first taste of her highly anticipated forthcoming third EP, written and recorded with her creative partner and collaborator Mike Irish.
"Written and recorded in one visceral take fueled by a post panic adrenaline rush, it’s an anthem for change and breaking habits, committing to yourself and wanting more." - Lizzy

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
LPX is the high-octane alternative solo project of Lizzy Plapinger. Co-founder of boutique record label Neon Gold Records (Christine and the Queens, Haim, Charli XCX, Tove Lo, Marina, Ellie Goulding etc) and lead singer of alt pop darlings MS MR.
Today, she releases “New Mood”, the first offering from her hotly anticipated forthcoming third EP, written and recorded with her creative partner and collaborator Mike Irish.
Lizzy about “New Mood”: "Written and recorded in one visceral take fueled by a post panic adrenaline rush, it’s an anthem for change and breaking habits, committing to yourself and wanting more."
LPX finds Lizzy front and center establishing herself as a new kind of DIY heavyweight. Her music toys with a kaleidoscope of styles as she seamlessly weaves between rock, pop and punk to create something entirely her own. All while rooted in her signature raw vocals delivered with full-on, authentic heart and energy.
Taking her years of experience behind the wheel at Neon Gold Records and with MS MR, LPX is a fully independent project - self funded, self released and self managed. Since starting in 2018 she’s been steadily building fans, critical acclaim and notoriety entirely on her own with two EPs. Bolt in the Blue (2018) and Junk of the Heart (2019), dedicated touring, opening for Haim, Marina (and the Diamonds), X Ambassadors, MØ, Bloc Party, Glass Animals etc. She curated the all female day of the Fall Classic Festival in DC along with Maggie Rogers (Billie Eilish, Jessie Reyez, Carly Rae Jepsen etc). LPX has had #1s at Triple J Radio, multiple TV syncs, and sold out headline shows. Live is where Lizzy and the LPX project most comes alive; she’s a bold and infectious force and brings stadium level energy and authenticity to everything the project touches.
Primed for the stage, LPX has been performing “New Mood” out on tour this past Fall to give fans an early preview and will be a highlight of her upcoming shows supporting Maggie Rogers as well as Carly Rae Jepsen in April and a slew of LPX headline dates (tba) in June to follow.

Praise for LPX:
“Everything she’s written—from the two recently released EPs and the already planned third EP and subsequent LP—has throngs of screaming fans and warm night air in mind”
- PLAYBOY
“[Might Not Make It Home] is a vintage sounding tune, with blunt scuzzy guitar that recalls the full-bodied, primal energy of The Strokes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while its bright atmospheric swells put Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade flavors on your tongue, all perked up by buoyant boom-clap pop beat a la the modern Top 40 acts like Charli XCX and Icona Pop, whose magic she helped discover.” - PAPER
“She’s a fully formed star, one who has reimagined the slick grooves and addictive hooks of contemporary pop into a harsh and fiercely immediate expression of emotion and sound, without losing the melodic appeal of the genre. In other words, it’s goddamned great… It’s rare to get to witness a new artist emerge fully formed, ready to conquer the world; Junk Of The Heart is a miniature masterpiece, and LPX is just getting started.” - AV CLUB
“Fiery and fantastic” - Wonderland
“Plapinger’s vivid style is just the visual manifestation of her role in indie music right now, and it proves she’s a force to be reckoned with.” - Vogue
"’Tightrope’ [is] a left field pop gem that blasts with fuzzed-out energy and emotion, recalling the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Klaxons, and The Strokes.” - Billboard
“The female half of MS MR is going solo. If “Tremble” is any indicator, her EP is gonna be one hell of a pop-banger release!” - Ed Droste in Entertainment Weekly
