"strained and wailing visceral genre"
Jesus On Your Hands by Arizona based Table Top Joe cooks along in such a passionate way. Jangly guitars on top of charging bass and drums, the chords creating it's own evocative melodies in and of themselves. While those chords hang alone in the air, the vocals, strained and wailing lash out:
"How do you make this family work,
With such a legacy of violent words?
I know for certain that it’s baked into your bones,
yet still you offer us a loving home."
It is clear that these words may of been written with hot blood running through veins and cold tears on cheeks.
This is a song about my wife. My wife that lived through hell, but still managed to pick herself up, fend of the demons, and live an admirable life.
I love the passion strewn across the sounds. Sonically it feels a bit like 90's college rock, a period and visceral genre that I like. Spartan, guitar driven, indie rock made out of intention not production, raw and real and thus timeless. I am thinking that Table Top Joe and his wife are lucky to have each other. I love the chorus:
"You’ve lived your life with grace
with a loving touch and strength
Don’t let them slam your name.
you’ve always known the way."
