"you got my back, I got your backs"
ILY Alley (I Love You, Alley) is the best kind of love song because it is one for a friend, not a lover. The ratio of love songs for lovers as opposed to friends is absolutely insane considering how many friends outlast lovers (right?). Aussie indie rock (alt-punk) band RACKETT, ostensibly a 4 piece centered around front person Rebecca Callander, churns out alternative rock, with garage punk tendencies and as produced by Dave Hammer, ILY Alley, has more of an electro pop aesthetic but full of whimsy and mellotron sounds swimming in psychedelic waters. The lyrics are tender and sang with love, ‘swapping cassettes, sharing regrets, karaoke drunk duets’ as Callander waxes poetic about her friend and RACKETT bass player, Ally Gavin (at the time with Kat Ayala on guitar and Astrid Holz on drums) and as press notes offer:
"Whilst in the studio tracking guitars for their last EP in 2018 as a band, it was revealed that Alley was going to become a mum, leading the band to make a heart wrenching decision that changed the course of their lives."
Rumour has it that RACKETT as Callander's baby is in transition or maybe just evolving. Whatever the case maybe and if ILY Alley is any indication what is coming (in terms of sound and songwriting) I anticipate good things.

Throwing herself headfirst into bright and vibrant future-punk sonic territory, RACKETT is all about thriving in the chaotic unknown. The first of many releases to come from RACKETT over the next year, the single is a snapshot of the musician’s innate desire to chase change and creative challenge.
The last few years have seen RACKETT emerge and become established as one of Australia's premier performers. Garnering attention off the back of her debut EP Ready Or Not in 2017 and then in 2018 with the impactful single ‘Prey’, for captivating music and a bombastic live show to match, RACKETT’s wild ride continued to play out on stages across the country. Dominating as headliner and festival favourite at events including Lost Paradise, Groovin The Moo, Big Pineapple Festival and Jack River’s Electric Lady Festival, while also being selected by The Rubens as finalists of their EXTRA SUPPORT YouTube competition, the power of RACKETT’s sound and presence was impactful from the start.
